Santiago de Cuba

Balance Odyssey Cuba. BOCU Slackshop #2.

Folks, from the Plaza de la Revolución in Santiago, we present to you the newest slack crew in Cuba, the Equipo de Discapacidad Escolar, a group of disabled athletes who now have a new tool in hand to train for competitions and aid in their rehabilitation. The team includes deaf and mute individuals, one of whom is a world champion hurdler, Leonidas Leon Maso, and other team members who are missing limbs. This is the first time we have workshopped with people with disabilities and it's hard to think of a more deserving and awesome group.

What's more, the sports psychologists that randomly met us and helped arrange this impromptu workshop also confirmed that they will work with the department of recreation in Santiago to set up this line in the park plaza on the weekends, so that the general public can also slack to their hearts' content. Stay tuned for more details and content from one of our favorite slackshops ever.

The trainer asked Ray about his elastic band and after showing them the technique they asked him if he was also gifting them the band, as they were short on such supplies. He misunderstood them, and said "of course," thinking they had asked to try it. They were really happy and thanked him. I looked at the situation and looked at Ray, told him, "Dude. They think you just gave that to them. Do you want to do that?"

He looks at me in despair and replies, "No. I need that! I need it for my knee."

I reply that he had to get himself out of this one. "This is on you, dude."

Cue me having to bail out Ray and explain his "Indian giving" to the disappointed disabled athletes.
